Jay, on feeding station, Pine Lodge, 16/7/09. _____________ Confirmed sightings of a kingfisher on 3 separate days in the Auchenstarry Basin by Terry Williams and Caroline McGrath Williams and Katie Roberts. On 30 January 2009 while walking on the bridle path at the Basin Terry spotted a dipper, while feeling quite pleased with himself, Terry was soon gazumped by the girls when an otter splashed out of a drainage pipe.

On one of the scorching hot days last summer I thought I heard the screeching of buzzards over the house, Pine Lodge, Dullatur. This was the image I saw, two birds tumbling through the air. Red Kites, I thought……… No, too far south. However as I watched them I was more convinced that I was correct. I phoned Norman Brodie, a resident of The Lane who is a life long bird watcher and whose son in law is an RSPB inspector in the Red Kites are back in On Thursday 2nd August 2007, I saw them again, soaring in the warm thermals over the village.
