Confirmed sightings of a kingfisher on 3 separate days in the Auchenstarry Basin by Terry Williams and Caroline McGrath Williams and Katie Roberts.

On one of the scorching hot days last summer I thought I heard the screeching of buzzards over the house, Pine Lodge, Dullatur. This was the image I saw, two birds tumbling through the air. Red Kites, I thought……… No, too far south. However as I watched them I was more convinced that I was correct. I phoned Norman Brodie, a resident of The Lane who is a life long bird watcher and whose son in law is an RSPB inspector in the Inverness area. He confirmed that what I was watching was indeed red kites from the Argaty site at Doune.

Red Kites are back in Central Scotland after 130 years.

On Thursday 2^nd August 2007, I saw them again, soaring in the warm thermals over the village.
